Training Courses

*Approved by the TN Fire Commission

Awareness & Operations: 24 hours

Awareness, Operations, & Technician: 40 hours

In this course, participants can evaluate, manage and perform a confined space rescue in accordance with NFPA 2500 and NFPA 1006. Participants get hands-on practice using typical confined space rescue equipment. The curriculum meets or exceeds requirements for rescue training in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146. The course is designed for both private industry and fire departments.

This course provides hands-on training that allows students to stay up to date in confined space rescue. The course consists of primarily hands-on skills related to the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1006. The course is designed for both private industry and fire departments.

This course provides a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to emergency care for those who may be first on the scene of a medical or traumatic emergency. Designed for public safety professionals, workplace responders, and community volunteers, this program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to stabilize patients, manage life-threatening conditions, and provide critical care until EMS arrives.

Through a blend of interactive instruction, scenario-based training, and practical skill application, learners will gain confidence in patient assessment and vital signs monitoring; airway management and oxygen administration; CPR and AED use for all age groups; bleeding control, shock management, and splinting; responding to medical, environmental, and trauma emergencies.

This 24-hour course is designed to introduce personnel to basic rigging techniques for unique situations. The course involves classroom and hands-on exercises. Participants will learn basic hand signals, crane types and uses, and heavy lifting techniques. The skills learned will equip you with the knowledge to safely perform lifting and moving operations of debris, collapsed structures and other items to access and free victims at natural or man-made disasters

This 24-hour course provides the knowledge and skills to prepare an emergency responder to extricate victim(s) from industrial machinery in a safe and effective manner in accordance with AHJ policies and procedures. Topics include sizing up an incident; establishing safety zones; mitigating hazards; stabilizing and creating access and egress openings for rescue; disentangling and removing victims; and terminating an incident. This course incorporates awareness, operations, and technician training based on NFPA 1006.

This 1-day training addresses occupational safety and health hazards encountered by responders, workers and employers involved in disaster site response and recovery operations. This program will address general safety hazards found in post-storm environments, electrical hazards, driving hazards, the FEMA Disaster Marking System, chain saw safety and water hazard safety practices.

Awareness & Operations: 32 hours

Awareness, Operations, and Technician: 60 hours

This course is based on NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5, 2021 Edition. The classroom portion includes a review of equipment, knots, and rope safety. Instruction events include establishing a need for rope rescue, uses and limitations of equipment, safety aspects, anchoring systems, rescue rappelling, third man rescue, lowering systems, and other aspects of rope rescue. The course covers operations in a high angle environment including rescue of a suspended victim, serving as a litter tender, and construction/operation of a high line system.

This 40-hour course is based on DHS/FEMA National US&R Response System curriculum and NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications. This program is designed for those people who respond to incidents involving the application of special knowledge, skills, and equipment to safely resolve unique or complex rescue situations. This program is an intense course which addresses light frame construction collapse.

This program is an intense course which addresses the following discipline areas: breaching and breaking, cutting and burning, lifting and moving, and shoring in concrete and heavy wall structures.

Awareness & Operations: 24 hours

Awareness, Operations, & Technician: 40 hours

Lithium Battery Courses

This two-hour course educates workers and community members on the potential hazards associated with lithium batteries. It provides an overview of safe handling practices and appropriate emergency response procedures. Participants gain an understanding of how lithium batteries can be damaged and the serious consequences that may result.

The four-hour course provides an in-depth overview of lithium-ion battery technologies, with a specific focus on the hazards associated with their use, storage and failure. The course explores the fundamental principles behind lithium-ion batteries. Participants gain a better understanding of chemistry and design variations of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, energy storage systems (ESS) and consumer electronics.

This eight-hour course includes all content from the standard four-hour training on lithium battery hazards, safe handling practices and emergency response procedures. In addition to the foundational material, the course provides an expanded exploration of advanced topics relevant to energy storage systems (ESS).

Participants delve deeper into the chemistry of cell failure, thermal runaway and related failure mechanisms. The course also introduces applicable requirements from NFPA 855, with a focus on how these standards apply to the installation and operation of ESS. To enhance practical understanding, real-world incident case studies are presented to highlight key risk factors and lessons learned. The course further examines current hazard mitigation tools available on the market, evaluating their strengths and limitations to support informed decision-making.

This extended training is ideal for professionals seeking both foundational knowledge and a deeper understanding of technical and regulatory aspects of lithium battery safety.
